Malaysia won yesterday. I haven't posted in a while. Might as well start again.

after reading older posts i think it is worth the time to jot down some important notes with rgards to life, triathlon, people, arsenal etc.

some older post does look stupid .. but unlike photos, jotting down means i can remember my state of mind during that particular time. .. .. even if it does look stupid...

experience .. is felt and memorized by the brain... worth more than any good picture...

my new found interest in triathlon

triathlon is just like travelling ... msut have distance .... stamina ...

whole lotta fun ... personally ... experiencing something new is the only reason i think makes people grow ... just like babies ... every day is a new sensation .. new experience .. first steps ... first everything ... and that's why babies i guess .. is always smiling ...i have a lot of routines in my life ... but when it comes to races .. i alwasy feel fresh ... always something new to learn ..to experience ...maybe i'm an adrenaline junkie ...maybe ..

distance for me doesn't necessarily mean the race distance .. of course to some it's overwhelming .. but it can't be done .. with my head firmly gripping to that principal ... i'm going to prove to myself that it can be done ...the distance is also the years/journey it takes to finally land me at Langkawi for a full ironman ...

and stamina .. is to finish it off ..not to blow up half way ... give up half way ... but to arrive to that destination ,....where you see yourself when you started .. begin with the end in mind ...

I must thanks Fox Mulder for me being in triathlon ... he introduced me into this business ...he was wearing this really cool timex watch with the "indiglo" feature on x-files... and i really wanted this watch because i wanted to be cool like fox mulder ...and i finally got a timex (years later and a current model).. and it has this little ironman logo on it (under the timex wording)... timex is the offical timekeeper for IM....

With that watch ... i was obssesed about chrono-ing evertyhing ... how much time i spent from home to the office ..how long do i have to shit before i'm late to work ... how long for a person to order mcdonalds ... and of course how fast i can finish the serdang course which was only 6 km - my longest running distance then ...unfortunately ..the watch is currently under repair .. (never ask a watchshop that doesn;t sell timex to change you the battery .. the next thing you know .. your watch is filled with water .. idiot!)

after that .. i have purpose to running ... i wanted to a) run non-stop b) maintain or break my personal best .. before i know it ... 6 km became fun .. running thru sri serdang . .watching kids coming back from school ... thru the pasar malam ... watching factory workers coming off work ... bangla's and people watching me like i'm running away from something .. the UPM chicks ...but honestly serdang is a great course to run.. a lot of things to see ...and the time keeps getting better ... so gradually i increased the distance .. but the course have to be interesting .. luckily my new housing area has scenic routes also ...

now ... i manage to finish 20k non-stop (almost half-marathon) ... and it felt good .... to be able to finish something i thought would be impossible ...

but i didn;t want to just be a runner ... i wanted to do triathlon ...

then come the swim ...

swimming is the discipline i enjoy the most .. training or racing .. it's basically swimming man .. it by default fun ... but triathlon swimming is difficult ... 3.8km ... open water ....i know doing 1 hour per week in the pool would not cut it .. so i decided to step it up ... but how .. efficient swimming requires technique ... who is going to teach me that ..?

answer: dave scott .. with good clips on you tube .. has a lot of tips and drills to perfect the art of triathlon swimming ... for the first 3 months i became obssesed with swimming ... hitting the pool averaging 4 times per week ... spending around 6 hours per week correcting my techniques... and at home .. i watched re-runs of countless swimming tips downloaded from you tube and practice in front of the mirror where and there were time i have to convince my wife i'm not nuts ..i'm just looking at my stroke baby...without a proper teacher to guide and correct my faults... i have only myself to count on ... i also spend a lot of time at the pool watching proper swimmer doing their stuff and learning fthru that as well ...

and now i manage to swim 2k non-stop ...practice does makes perfect ...

2 out of 3 ... i told my self if i can swim up to 1 km .. i would buy i bike .. because i can compete in a sprint triathlon consisting of 500m swim ... 20k bike .. and 5 km run ... and after i completed my first 1 km at the pool .. i called up kadir and alin .. for some bike tips .. which bike to buy with my limited budget ... and i bouth a merida 901 .... around RM2k ... it's ok i guess ... it got me through races ...

i still don;t feel physically comfortable compared to running/swimming when training on the bike .. until now ... for me .. the bike portion of the triathlon is the time to fuel up for the run ... but 180 km man .. i really can't just ride through that distance .. i must practice so i would not struggle as much or even worse drop out... so that's what i'm gonna do ... after the DPA 6 months .. gonna get me an aerobar ... upgrade a few components ... and ask dave scott for some bike tips ... via you tube of course ...

and with help from some interseting routes suggested by kadir .. i can hopefully enjoy cycling ...

with that .. i can conclude that ... triathlon serves up my hormones quite well ...

it has the adrenanline factor, distances, challenges ... and most importantly it provides me with new experiences and a whole lotta FUN ...

and all the things that people say about how practice makes perfect ... to be patient .. basically work to get what you want...

.... it is true

... i mean ... of course it's true la.... but to literally realizing those captions .. it's an awesome mind boggling feeling.... i figured if i incorporate it in whatever i do and keep the faith ....with time.. it will come to me ...

I'm off to INTAN mont kiara this monday for 7 months for what should be .. based on those who previously underwent the course ... annoying. But there would be some fun modules sandwiched between the 7 months. The duration was suppose to be for 6 months but due to ramadhan they extended it to 7 months ... hari raya man .. must go back ...

That's why i'm at the office on my day off ... packing up some stuff ... just to check if i left anything behind. .... the thing that i'm glad to leave behind is work of course :)

Obviously i'm gonna miss my little unit ... hadzim faeiq and my wife .. hadzim faeiq for sure ... but my wife so much so because to be honest i'm heavily dependent on her .. she prepares most of my stuff . .arranges a lot of stuff ... important to little things ... and not to have that would be a great adjustment ... either i'm too lazy or she's just good at taking care of me ... the latter would make me look better ...

well ... i guess ... that's life ... my life ...

i'm fully satisfied to have completed the sprint tri at desaru. I probably could have finished the long distance event but i think i'll save that for next year. Anyway, i don't want to finish all out flat. I want to finish the race like it is a race. Not just finishing it since i think anyone can finish a triathlon. Its just a matter of time.

My target was simple. non-stop & finish. My calf kind of starting to turn against me during the run but 200 meters along the way it wears off. Later on, i found my rhythm and finished. completed the race in 1 hour. The first guy completed it in 39 minutes i think. Still a long way to go for me to get close to that time.

went to watch the long distance event on saturday. took off from senai at 7:30 am and arrived 8:55 am. The first thing i wanted to do was take a look at the sea. I've heard many people mentioned that the waves are vicious. indeed they are. But it's just for the 100 meters. Then it looks ok. Saw hundreds of people starting the swim and i wished i was one of them. But its not my time yet.

The bike portion of the race was pretty cool. Saw lotsa cool tri bikes ranges from expensive cervelo bikes to merida 901 (my road bike). Exactly the same. Learned some stuff on transition. I got bored waiting for them to finish 80 km so i took off and went back home.

i wanted to download few more pics but since the internet is so fucking slow and i'm fed up so i'll just post.

seat height need to be higher, not utilizing the right muscle groups. Anyway last night went on a 20 k ride. and i thought 13 k was easy but trying to do it the time trial way is pretty tiring. I was just makan angin last time. so must put some effort la. be faster. cadence training when longer la. shorter route i should do time trial.

the bike ...

i think as the bike section of a tri as doing a physical activity while carrying a piece of metal with you. as far as running and swimming is concern you have to just carry your body ... propel forward and go as fast as you could ... with a bike .. its different .... the gearing ... and there's breaking .... and the adjustment ... bike fitting ... oh ... so many things to consider ...

anwyay ,.. the rule of thumb was to have a staright leg when you're on a sitting mode with your feet parallel to the ground ... WITH a slight knee angle .. i realize yesterday that my angle was too big ... and hence the un efficient pedalling which left my legs sore ...

i'm gonna raise the seat a bit and see how that would go .. otherwise i'll have to adjust the cleats ... we'll see ..

anyway .. found a great track now for cycling ... 21 km ... bkt mahkota - sri putra - bukit mahkota - nilai 3 - bukit mahkota ....so that's a good olympic distance ... about 4 hills ... and 1 quite long one ... which i can practice pedalling while standing .... and gearing of course...

also a running track of 6 km .. and a long one 12 km ... so i don;t have to go to putrajaya to cycle anymore ... and take off my tires and get my hands dirty from the chain grease and stuff ... and not to mention the headache when putting the tires back on ...

there;s a putrajaya tri this year ... maybe if its on .. i'l ldo the olympic distance ... we;ll see

I was on a 1+2+3+4+5= 10 scheme before and last night i tried the 2+3+4+5+6 = 20 scheme. It rained last nite at the pool but they still opened the pool anyway since there were no thunder. anyway, the 2nd scheme is better since it saves a lot of time. And that way i could prepare for the olympic distance = 1.5k.

never tried open water swimming. I'm going to save that. I read somewhere that it is better to save your first competetive open water swimming for your first tri.

ran my 2nd 10k run on sunday. the 2nd run was ok since i'm running with new shoes. last time, i was running with my nike free and let me tell you .. there is little support on the muscles and at times it hurts .. causing me to fatigue even quicker ...

i think for swimming ... i got a good hang on the whole stroke thing ... did a pyramid scheme which gave me time to rest without compromising the effort needed to finish the distance ... good thing i found it on the internet ... very good tip .. ... so i manage to do 30 laps ... and i felt ok afterwards ... so that's like 1.5 k ... so i guess ... that's quite ok ... i see no point trying to do 1.5k non-stop now .. maybe later when my stroke count is reduced .. and i move more or less like a fish ...

i hate to bike ... but i just have to ... when i see this big hills ... i know it will hurt ... i hate it when the gears slipped ... and the fear of a punctured tyre ...

been running and swimming for the past year and a half ... i think .. and just started cycling ... i'm doing my first duathlon in july .. and then my first tri (sprint) in august ..

next year's target ... hopefully i can finish a half marathon and a full olympic tri .. maybe if i'm confident enough .. i'll try the 70.3 (half IM) ...

i sure wish i have some one on the same mission as mine ..

why on earth did we decided to climb irau. 5 hrs up and down with the last 3 hours in pitch black.

wafi got himself a new truck. which is the coolest thing ever. the idea of being on the back of a truck while travelling to a unique destination at night under the moon is sooo kewl.

Arsenal won the carling cup tie against wigan. The 3rd goal which was a delicate chip from carlos vela was superb and the sign was good for the arsenal youngsters.

apart from the carling cup, Arsenal also proved their worth by beating manchester united 2-1. What else can i say, when they're good, they're the best. When they're out of form, it jsut doesn't happen for them.

but arsenal is still the kewlest club ever.

i was thinking about going digital

i was lucky enough to have attended the PAC at INTengah last week ..

and there were exactly 133 people there ... i've met both number 1 and number 133 .. so that was pretty cool ..

the thing is ... people do things to impress and for me its no exception .. i was concentrating so much on impressing that it made me nervous ... shit ... i thought ... i should really enjoy this shit ... and pretend to be a happy go lucky guy who's not afraid to take on the world .. not afraid to speak his mind ... what a bunch of BS .. beautiful BS ...

the experience came easy as most of the people there were so friendly ... i think its due to the fact that we all are striving for the same thing ... it was like school all over again ... it was cool .

and to be a super confident dude was never easy ... but most guys were ....

all those that i've met and talked to were honest cool people ... it was funny and at the same time sickening to see so much friendliness in one place ... most of my days are just with normal people ..with different agendas ....and some time even obnoxious sarcastic people who feel they're buddha on top of a mountain ..

what was there to be seen was the fact that people will do things .. things out of the ordinary to get what they want ... even if it means trying something new or just facing your fear ..

antisocial, suicidal, popular .. liberated .. unique? .. cool honest creative ? .

i think there's a name for that .. social mirror i think ... the mirror reflects ... on ...who you think you are based on people's perception and experience ... but who you are is actually what you do in a given situation ..

THe matta fair held recently at PWTC was really an eye opener ....

People in malaysia loves to travel! That's great!

I think thousands went to find a sweet deal that would take them to their chosen destination ... !!!

matta fair = PC fair .... with all the flyers being handed out ... and people bargaining .... asking about the packages ....

but package holiday with fixed agenda is probably not suitable for those who enjoy backpacking / budget travelling style ...

those who enjoy the unpredictability of arranging and doing everything themselves ...can also benefit from the fair since they can estimate on how much to spend and stuff ...

for me ... it was my first time .. but we (frh & me) will try and go to all the fair and have a pretty good idea of where to go next ... and maybe plan our leaves and money and shit ...

Arsenal stormed into the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League after a magnificent victory at Milan on Tuesday evening.

It was a huge night for Arsène Wenger's side. They were up against not only the holders but Europe's most successful side in recent years and, at home, their bright campaign had been stuttering of late.

But they responded with a performance of determination, poise and patience. It was capped five minutes from time by a goal from Cesc Fabregas. Along with Mathieu Flamini, the Spaniard had dominated the famous names in the Milan midfield. Perhaps it was a new-found respect that meant they afford him a little too much space to let fly from fully 30 yards.

As the ball bounced into the net, the Arsenal fans erupted. Fabregas slid on his knees towards the dug-out then ran off kissing the badge on this shirt.

Adebayor slotted home another in the final minute seal a win that felt every bit as good as the 5-1 on this ground against Inter in 2003... or the 1-0 win at Real Madrid... or the 1-0 win at Juventus in 1980.

It was Milan's first defeat at home by English opposition and perhaps Arsenal's greatest away win in European competition.

And it was utterly, utterly deserved.

It is a well-worn phrase but the San Siro really is a cathedral of football. And, as in every place of worship, the atmosphere is dependent on the strength of belief among the congregation.

Before kick-off this evening, the Milanese fans seemed to have an almost evangelistic belief in their side. Most of the independent observers were with them.

Wenger side's saw only one change from the weekend. Emmanuel Eboue, whose current ban does not include European football, replaced Theo Walcott on the right. Alex Hleb was deployed as a half-striker behind Adebayor.

Although it had been a highly tactical game overall, the second half of the first leg had been attacking and enthralling. The start of the return rubber began the same way.

In the fifth minute, Pato burst to the byline and saw his angled shot deflected over. From the corner, Paolo Maldini nodded on at the near post and there was a moment of consternation in the six-yard box before Arsenal cleared. Arsenal were being stretched and stretched. But Adebayor's fine drive in the 27th minute gave them not only respite but hope. Hleb weaved forward and eventually Diaby nudged the ball to the Togolese striker whose curling sidefoot had to be touched over by Milan keeper Zeljko Kalac.

The visitors grew in confidence from the chance and started to build moves with a little more patience. The whistles from the home crowd suggested the tide was turning.

That was hammered home in the 32nd minute when Arsenal worked their way down the left flank and Adebayor found Fabregas on the edge of the area. His rasping effort beat Kalac and rattled the bar.

Arsenal were now stretching Milan with Fabregas and Hleb pulling the strings to try and give Adebayor a clear sight of goal.

It never quite happened before the break but the home 'congregation' was noticeably quieter.

They were so nearly silenced two minutes after the interval when Fabregas raked a corner through the area to the far post where Senderos ghosted in to thud an effort into the chest of Kalic. If it had gone a foot either side it would have been the opener.

Arsenal were starting to find regular space in the Milan area - and the home fans did not like it one bit. In the 50th minute, Eboue fired wide from six yards when he might have tested Kalac.

Although Pirlo's bobbling free-kick was somewhat nervously turned around the post by Almunia shortly afterwards, Arsenal still had the upper hand.

Just past the hour Kaka's mazy running saw him outpace Fabregas and then outwit Sagna before firing wide.

After that, for the first time on the night, the game started to lose focus. Not surprisingly both managers threw on attacking substitutes - Alberto Gilardino and Walcott respectively

The new addition for the visitors nearly set up Adebayor in the 73rd minute but his deflected cutback just would not come down in time for the striker. Five minutes later, Pato cut inside Clichy and curled an effort just wide.

The tension was now becoming palpable. Milan were the masters of brinkmanship but Arsenal had been the better side over the two ties. They deserved to go through, all they had to do was score.

Fabregas obliged five minutes from time when the home side afforded him too much space and he tried his luck from distance.

Milan suddenly looked an old side and their response was minimal. It was no surprise to see Walcott fly down the right in the final minute before sending a low ball across the area for Adebayor to convert at the far post.

The Arsenal side reprised their famous huddle at the full time whistle in front of an emptying San Siro.

The most recent Kings of Europe had lost their crown and, on the strength of this performance, Arsenal were the young pretenders to the throne.

Thierry henry finally made a move to barcelona after years of courting and chasing from the catalan side.

in less then 2 weeks, arsenal was kicked out of every cup competition. now the only thing they can do is chase the number 3 spot in the league. i'm being realistic. with 2 games in hand i think liverpool will slide to 4th. no doubt.

they contorl the game but to be honest they never bother the goal keepeer that much. guilty of being overplayed. with the defense looking rather fragile to attacks and set pieces ... i think it is fair.

and i received lotsa verbal abuse due to me being cocky before the game and i paid the price .. manchester united fan will always be delighted with a negative result from arsenal....

its all about football

arsenal drew with southampton which i think is ok since they're playing away. derby match. the result was fair since they were 2-0 down. baptista got a hatrick eventhough one goal was scored by him against arsenal. the 2nd leg at emirates is the one i'm looking forward to. love watching young gunners whooping other teams... they don't dissapoint.

another young team to watch out for is the malaysian team. now they look .. like they could last 90 mins without suffering muscle cramps or ... ran out of stamina or some shit like that ...

their passing could be better though ... nervous most of the times .. they'd just kick the ball and hope it'd turn out to be a great pass ... hope luck is on our side on saturday ... cuz malaysia really need luck on their side ...

anyway .. it was fun .. i ended up with a lesion on my neck whick look a bit like a love byte. but i haven't seen it yet as of now.

it happened when this punk was trying to bodysurf. So he climbed my back a few times but failed. and he left me with a fucking lesion that hurt like a motherfucker.

seriously i don't memorize all their songs but i do remember the chorus ... and since they were playing ol skool stuff .. i manage to follow ... the last song was 60s tv ... its a must .... and before the song ended i bodysurfed and it was great .. :)

the butter and frens gig was held yesterday .. it was good. the sound was good. almost perfect. maybe since it was held at zouk and sponsored by many. especial bimbit.com. wtf? never heard of bimbit. maybe they are starting to mark their presence by sponsoring the gig.

i wonder who won the voting thingy.

anyway ... the gig went rather well ... except for the sheer coldness. it was freezing inside. i didn't even shed a sweat.

18sgg was first to perform ... i was late and they were performing. didn't hear much .. can't concentrate on the songs their playing.

next up was prana ... well .. i'm not a fan of reggae and their song was almost all the same to me .. was amazed by thier bassist who i think had pretty flexible fingers .. and fast i might add ...

their lead vocalist was ha tau. ha tau meant rock on in phillipines ...

even if he punk'd us .. we'll never know ...

scts was on after prana ... and the first song was enough to get my attention ... it was renaldo moon.... it was so .. good ... and i also like drones ... the rest was allright ... oh yeah .. i only learned the title of the songs courtesy of jasmine ...tq 4 da mp3 ...

scts were tight like anna kournikova's spandex .. good band ... very good ...

their singer also told a very amusing story before playing this one song ... it was about how he lost his backpack in the mountains and how he lost his identity or some shit like that ... anyway ... its good to see the band trying to be a little friendly towards the crowd ... being personal and shit ..good try ,.. it only manage to get the two bozo hosts from fly.fm to make fun of the story by telling their own losing an identity story ,,,

lmb was next ... i started to venture into the crowd / moshpit by the time freefall was on .... butter is next anyway and i wanted to get a good view of them ... and my back was limiting my action .. so i just push oncoming bodies ... head bang a little .. i pushed bosol who was also there in the crowd... so he also got involved into the kicking and pushing ... it was fun ...

anyway .. their new songs ... like prana ....was almost all the same .. i only recognize hollywood holiday and this other song since i heard it so many time .. live lah ... sharul was a true rockstar ... wing meng .... really put on a good show ... even tho it was very emo ... i didn't start crying or anything ...

you know a band did well in a gig when you can remeber what the band did.. sang...performed ...the next day ...

and i always remember a butterfingers performance ...

loque really looks like shit ... he looks like he lost a lot of money and became an alcoholic ... his beard was wild and out of control ... he was covered in cellulite ... but there was no questioning his rocking that night ...

emmet on the other hand... was the opposite ... he was charming and clean cut... ... and he bodysurfed that night ... emmet is a big boy i tell you .... he's heavy ... both of emet and loq combined after two years missing ...and they were awesome ... singging along with them was great ...

kadak maintained his chubby figure ... he was quiet ... but still rock ...

loko ... man .. was he loco .. he whacked the drums and cymbals silly ... he beat them to death ... ... during 1.2mg kalai was playing and i wonder if loko could be as good as him playing old butter songs ... and loko proved to be as good as kalai.... if not ....better ...

can't wait for next week .. i was hoping they play some selamat tinggal dunia songs ... but .. its allright ... they still rock ...

...... new bands these days .. cannot perform .. some have good songs ... but cannot perform .. ..some can perform but can only use their instruments to produce cow shit ...

its the combination of the two i think ... and i hope all the bands out there to .. grow up .. be a rockstar ... ... i know you got talent but you don't have to be a prick about it ... this underground thing got to stop .. what underground? are you freeing slaves or something .. making changes ? .. have some political issues that you need to sort out with the govt ... fuck that ... we all have issues with the govt ...

i thought giving your hundred percent was easy. but it's not. sometimes it is frustrating when all your concentration and focus go to waste. when all you did do not invite praises and all that matter was results. there is no rating for efforts.

if to enter a higher learning institute was rated on efforts, i think the majority of us would fail miserably.

i hate it when all the things that you do for something doesn't add up to the result. your best is shit when result is concerned. your hard work and everything is shit if the result is shit.

then why be a purist?

why go to an extend to please yourselves if the result was based on someone elses point of view?. why do we need to serve purpose when we are expected to serve only function?

i should just lay back and listen to what people want and try my best to give it to them. By anymeans that will fulfill their needs and requirement.

it was a hot day sunday to shoot hoops but i went anyway coz i haven't played for some time. heck i'll play as long as its not raining.

the hot hot heat reminded me during the summertime in the us where i would play bball for hours and drank tap water when thirsty. my family and i would jump from one garage sale to another and got ourselves some pretty cool and useful stuff. a remote controlled tank was one item i could remember. a skateboard and a bike. during summer, i would ride the bike up the hills and around columbia's college where my pals and i would end up at these roman columns. we then climbed on the base of the column and jumped from one column to another. we'd be at the arcade and never once feel like we don't belong. maybe because people there don't eyeball you if you are different. at least educated people there don't.

winter was also an awesome experience. especially if it was your first winter. my first winter was actually not one of those winter where snow flakes would fall and in the morning there'd be knee high snow ... it was ice. the road was sleek with ice and this weird looking vehicle would throw salt to the asphalt to melt the ice. in the morning me and my brothers would have to scrape ice from the windshield and have to wait for almost 15 minutes for the car to warm up.

... the thing that i love the most about winter is .. the virgin snow ... it would start snowing around 2 to 3 am .. so my bros and i couldn't go out .. so in bed ....on our knees .... we looked out the windowas we watched the fallen snow flakes grew in numbers... the dim street light made it more beautiful .... and in the morning .... all we could see is this powdery white puffy snow. we'd put on our jackets and shit ....and the crunching sound of snow was heard each step we took. i did a summersoult and it didn't hurt a bit.
